In 1988 consumers became very environmentally aware and demanded more environmentally responsible products. Merino invested more than $1 million dollars in recycling equipment for a paper mill to allow us to meet the growing need for recycled products. In 1990, Merino undertook major technological changes to our machinery to enable us to wrap our toilet tissue in paper. This is still continued today with our white and unbleached/recycled variants. The paper source for our recycled paper products is 95-100% post consumer waste (clean office waste), and up to 5% pre-consumer waste (offcuts and waste generated in the factory) which is returned to the mill for recycling. For you, this means less waste paper going to landfill. All SAFE paper products are manufactured without bleaching. The paper may have been bleached in a previous process, but it is not re-bleached in our manufacturing process.Our coloured toilet tissues use only bio-degradable, organic dyes which have passed the dye manufacturers requirements to be ecologically sound. Merino continues to strive to create environmentally responsible products, and are researching and developing more responsible ways to package and deliver our products to our customers.
